Second Quarter Run Pushes LMU Past Queens 58-52

Lady Railsplitters win third straight game

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Five straight points by sophomore Lindsay Proffitt turned a four point deficit into a lead that LMU would never relinquish as they defeated Queens 58-52 Saturday afternoon in the Tex Turner Arena.

With the win, LMU improves to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in South Atlantic Conference play. Queens falls to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in the SAC with the loss.


HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Lady Railsplitters came out ice cold, missing their first five attempts and spotting Queens an 8-0 lead to start the game.
• LMU would score on a three by Proffitt and eventually cut the lead to one early in the second quarter.
• The Royals extended the lead back to four before LMU went on an 8-0 run to claim the lead with under four minutes left in the half.  
• Queens would hang around, cutting the lead to 21-19at the half before LMU went on a 9-2 run to extend the lead to eleven.
• The Royals would cut the lead to three on a couple of occasions down the stretch, but key free throws by LMU allowed the hosts to hold on for their third straight win as they defeated Queens 58-52.


KEY PLAYERS/STATS

Lauren Flowers led LMU with 14 points, three assists and three steals.
• Kyndall Caudle had a good day offensively as she went 4-5 from the field, 2-2 from three-point range and 2-2 from the free throw line to score a career-high 12 points.
Shermeria Quarles had a career-high 12 rebounds to lead all players.
• Toni McCombs had another double-digit outing, scoring 11 to go along with eight assists.
• Kristian Eanes led the Royals with 16 points while Julia Raflund chipped in 15 points to go along with nine rebounds.

• For the game, LMU shot 38.3 percent from the field, 42.9 percent from behind the arc, and 61.5 percent from the charity stripe.
• QU shot 33.9 percent from the field, 9.5 percent from three-point range, and 66.7 percent from the free throw line.
• The teams tied on the boards as each had 38 apiece.
• Queens outscored LMU on second-chance points 20-5 and points in the paint 30-18, but LMU had the 36-10 advantage in bench points.


UP NEXT

The Lady Railsplitters will take some time off for finals before taking the court again on Dec. 18 when they host Lenoir-Rhyne for a 6 p.m. contest.
