Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Proffitt's career-high 23 points power LMU past North Greenville, 102-74

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The LMU women's basketball team gave their fans a nice Valentine's Day gift as they not only snapped a four-game losing streak but did it with the best team shooting performance of the Krystal Evans era as they defeated North Greenville 102-74 in non-conference action Thursday evening in the Tex Turner Arena.

LMU hit 59.0 percent of their shots from the field as they went 36-61 for the game. That is the highest shooting percentage by LMU since November, 2010. They also hit 42.9 percent of their three-pointers. Their defense held NGU to 44.6 percent shooting from the field and 34.5 percent from three-point range. They also out-rebounded the Crusaders 34-28 and had eight turnovers while forcing NGU into 17 for the game.

Lindsay Proffitt led the way for the Blue and Gray as she had a career-high 23 points off of 7-10 shooting from the field and 4-7 shooting from three-point range. Emily Griffith chipped in 18 points and seven assists. Jordan Maney and Rachel Griffith each had 12 points and four rebounds while Sydney Duggins scored 10 points. Dasia Maxwell led all players with five rebounds.

The Lady Railsplitters shot the lights out in the first quarter, hitting a mind-blowing 81.3 percent of their shots for the stanza. The hot shooting allowed LMU to open up with a 16-4 start, with eleven of those points by Proffitt. The Crusaders cut the score to 16-7, but that was as close as they would get for the rest of the game.

The second quarter in recent games has been LMU's weakest, and against NGU they were able to overcome that as they outscored the Crusaders 24-18 in that period to take a 57-36 lead at the half.

LMU extended the lead to 31 points midway through the third quarter and the Crusaders were never able to get closer than 27 points for the rest of the game.

The loss spoils a nice outing by NGU's Karen Donehew as the Knoxville native had 26 points to lead the Crusaders. Tyana Saunders scored 11 points while Savannah Hughes and Bree Stoddard each chipped in 10 points.
