Softball suffers first doubleheader loss at Trevecca

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — McKenzie Henry homered twice while Sierra Hucklebee hit another Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as the Lincoln Memorial University softball team fell, 6-3, in the first game versus Trevecca Nazarene University before the home Trojans handed LMU its first run-rule loss, 13-2, of the season in the second game.

The Trojans (6-4) limited the Lady Railsplitters (10-4) to just nine hits — six in the first game and three in the second — while they combined for 22, with 16 of those coming in the five-inning, game two victory.

LMU trailed early in their first road game of the season as TNU scored two in the bottom of the second frame to kick off the scoring. Henry changed that rather quickly, smacking a third-inning, three-run home run to score Ty-Kella Goins and Hucklebee, as they both had a single apiece, and go up 3-2.

However, from there in the first game, the Lady Railsplitters were only able to string together three more hits as the Trojans were powered on their seven-hit day by a pair of home runs — one from Kelsey Seitz and Mary Collins — to overwhelm Faith Howe (L, 2-2) just enough in the circle.

Ragyn Hall (W, 3-0) secured the first win for the Trojans, while Savannah Carr (W, 2-2) claimed the next in the night cap.

The Lady Railsplitters got to Carr early in the second game via the bat of Hucklebee for her second blast on the year followed by Henry — her team-leading fifth home run of the season — to force a pitching change, but Morgan Powell was able to come in and tame the Lady Railsplitter bats.

After TNU knotted the score at 2-all in the bottom of the first frame, the LMU bats cooled down and Carr re-entered as the visiting team only saw one more hit, coming from Allie Jones, after its fiery start. Meanwhile, the Trojans followed their hot first inning with another Collins' home run and one from Tana Whited to take the lead for good.

Collins got to LMU starter Bailey Griffith (L, 5-2) again in the fourth and fifth inning as she connected on back-to-back grand slams to shut the door for good on a tough day for the Lady Railsplitters.

Up Next
