HARROGATE, Tenn. — The Lady Railsplitter lacrosse team (5-1, 1-0 SAC) will take its five-game winning streak into Wednesday's nonconference match against Lee University (3-4) at the LMU Lacrosse Complex. The game will mark the first time this season LMU will play on its home field with game time set for 4 p.m.
Lee comes into the contest having lost its last four games. The two most recent losses came during its Florida swing, when No. 24 Florida Tech beat the Lady Flames 22-2 and No. 25 Saint Leo won by a 23-4 count. Despite the four straight losses, LMU Head Coach
Caitlyn Corace is not looking past Lee.
"They have played a pretty tough early season schedule," Corace noted. "They are by no means to be underestimated. We have to make sure we are on top of them for the full 60 minutes. They have some pretty good offensive sets so we have to make sure defensively that nobody slips through."
LMU is coming off a 22-11 win over Coker last Friday. The win was the fifth in a row for the Lady Railsplitters, far and away the longest in the program's five-year history. With the team's confidence at a high level, Corace is keeping the team's focus on the next opponent.
"We remind them that the season is far from over," she stressed. "This is just the beginning and things can turn in an instant. We need to make sure that we are coming out to play hard in games and practice."
LMU has relied on a stingy defense and balanced scoring to pace its attack. Goalie
Micayla Starnes and attacker
Erin DePaul were honored this week as the Astroturf SAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, the first time in program history two Lady Railsplitters have received the honor in the same week.
"The girls have worked hard on their own during the offseason and we are seeing the results," said Corace. "Micayla made some great saves at key points in the Coker game and Erin has been very consistent this season. Being recognized is a true testament of the hard work they have put in this year."
The explosive offensive attack is led by DePaul (21 goals),
Kelly Csenar (15 goals),
Amara Moss (14 goals),
Casey Kelly (11 goals) and
Melanie Cascio (7 goals). Defensively, Starnes has been steady in goal with a goals against average of 10.33, good enough for second in the SAC.
Corace and the team are hoping for a true home field advantage in this contest.
"The girls are excited to be playing at home," Corace said. "We are hoping to get our students out there. They have been following us on social media but have not been able to see a game. It will be nice not to have a bus ride before a game. This is our true home opener."
