No. 12 Queens dominates defensively to beat Railsplitters 16-6

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 12 Queens Royals used an 11-0 run that consumed the entirety of the second and third quarters to take down the Railsplitters 16-6 in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Dickson Field.

Lincoln Memorial (2-6, 0-2 SAC) was tied 2-2 with the Royals (6-1, 1-0 SAC) at the end of the first quarter, but Queens, which entered the match with the nation's sixth-best scoring defense, shut the Railsplitters out in the second and third quarters while racking up 11 goals over that same span.

The loss extended the Railsplitters' losing streak to six games, while Queens snapped a two-game losing streak against Lincoln Memorial that dated back to 2017 with the victory.

The Royals outshot the Railsplitters 43-38, including a 14-4 edge in the third quarter, which saw Queens rack up nine of its 16 goals. Lincoln Memorial also finished on the short end of the stick in shots on goal, 28-20. That included a commanding 13-1 margin in the third.

Kyle Arcuri and Ian Cook were the only LMU players with multiple points. Arcuri had a goal and an assist, while Cook had two goals. Robert Tucker and Reggie Golfin also had goals.

Kealan Pilon paced the Royals with three goals and two assists, while Laszlo Henning had a goal and two assists. Justin Swick, David Byrne and Matthew Cameron added two goals apiece.

Tucker's goal at the 7:27 mark and Golfin's score at the 4:15 mark of the first quarter helped the Railsplitters go into the second locked in a 2-2 stalemate with the Royals.

However, Lincoln Memorial would not score again until the 13:55 mark of the fourth, as the Royals rattled off 11 unanswered goals to take a commanding 13-2 lead into the final frame.

Arcuri's goal 65 seconds into the fourth quarter halted Queens' 11-0 flurry, but the Royals scored three of the next four goals in the match to expand their lead to 16-4 with 3:22 left in regulation.

The Railsplitters scored twice in the final minute to cut the final margin to 10 goals.

Trenton Cameron allowed 15 goals and made 11 saves over 54 minutes of work in goal for the Railsplitters. Cal Whyte made his first appearance of the season in relief of Cameron, making one save and allowing one goal in just under six minutes of action.

Lincoln Memorial will try to right the ship and pick up its first SAC win of the season on Wednesday with a matchup against Mars Hill at the LMU Lacrosse Complex. That match is set for a 4 p.m. start.
