Adams and Moore lead Railsplitters to ninth straight win

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Tyler Adams and Henry Moore drove in four runs apiece to lead the Railsplitters to their ninth consecutive victory with a wire-to-wire 9-2 win over Shorter on Tuesday at Lamar Hennon Field.

Four different players had multiple hits for Lincoln Memorial (20-8), which secured its 20th win of the 2019 campaign with the victory and remained unbeaten all-time against Shorter (14-11).

Adams went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in the top of the first and a three-run double in the seventh, while Moore had a two-run double in the first and a pair of bases-loaded walks. Chris Salvey went 2-for-4 and scored a run, while Nate Stinson recorded multiple hits for the ninth straight game, going 2-for-5 with two singles. Marco Rios added a pair of singles as well.

Joe Bobiak delivered a solid start for the Railsplitters, pushing his record to 4-0 on the season after five strong innings. The lefty allowed just four hits and one run while striking out four before turning it over to the bullpen in the top of the sixth.

Jake Grenus went 2.0 innings, giving up one run and four hits over that span, while Hudson Widrig and Bryson Sullivan did not allow an earned run over an inning of relief action apiece.

The Railsplitters jumped all over the Hawks, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The first four batters of the inning reached safely, as Seth Hunt walked, Will Reddick singled and Adams drove in the first run with a single. Salvey followed that up with a single and scored from first on Moore's two-run double two batters later.

Lincoln Memorial left the bases loaded in the third and fourth innings, but managed to push three runs combined across in those two frames. Moore's two bases-loaded walks accounted for a run in both of those frames, while an infield error also allowed another run to cross for the Railsplitters.

Matt Christian put Shorter on the board in the top of the fifth inning with a solo home run down the left-field line, but the Railsplitters broke the game open in the seventh inning, loading the bases for the third time in the game. Alex Allen walked before both Rios and Tanner Head were hit by pitches to put three on for Adams, who sent them all home with a liner that just snuck over the head of the Hawks centerfielder.

Adams' knock extended the lead to 9-1, a gap that proved beneficial down the stretch, as Shorter strung together three straight singles to load the bases with no outs in the top of the eighth inning. However, Widrig halted the rally, allowing just an RBI groundout in the frame to keep the Railsplitters in front 9-2.

Sullivan then set the Hawks down in 1-2-3 order in the top of the ninth with a pair of punch outs.

The Railsplitters put up seven or more runs for the eighth time in their last nine games and extended their nonconference home winning streak to seven games.

Lincoln Memorial resumes its five-game home stand on Wednesday with a 3 p.m. first pitch against Kentucky State.
