SALISBURY, N.C. — The Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team hits the road on Saturday for a key South Atlantic Conference matchup against the Catawba Indians.
The Lady Railsplitters (7-2, 2-1 SAC) are coming off an impressive 19-3 win against Mars Hill on Wednesday at the LMU Lacrosse Complex. Lincoln Memorial trails Catawba (4-5, 3-0 SAC) by one game in the conference standings.
"Catawba is always a very competitive game for us and this year is no different," Head Coach
Caitlyn Corace said. "We need to play smart and use our possessions wisely on offense."
Explosive offense has been the norm for LMU this season. Lincoln Memorial is averaging 13.4 goals per game and is led by attacker
Erin DePaul with 32. Against Mars Hill, eight different players registered goals, led by DePaul's five and three each from
Kennedy Buechner and
Rachel Gardner.
Defensively, goalie
Micayla Starnes has been rock solid in goal. Starnes is among the leader in the conference in saves (third), save percentage (fourth) and goals against average (third), giving up just over 10 goals per game.
"Micayla has done a great job in goal for us and we have confidence in her," Corace said. "She has been so consistent and really elevated our defense."
Catawba comes into the game with a balanced scoring attack having 12 players who have scored goals this season. On the defensive end, the Indians are giving up over 14 goals per game.
"Defensively, we have to be solid in our one-on-one matchups," Corace said. "They have some shifty attackers."
Lincoln Memorial and Catawba will get underway at 11 a.m. Live stats and video links are available at www.lmurailsplitters.com.
