Behind program-record win total, men's volleyball aims for more in regular-season finale

DUE WEST, S.C. — Under John Cash's direction, the Lincoln Memorial University men's volleyball program has reached a record win total each season. In his first year under the helm a season ago, the Railsplitters topped the inaugural season's 10 wins with 14 and have already surpassed those victories with a handful of matches remaining.

In LMU's 3-2 win over Belmont Abbey this past Saturday, it not only marked the Railsplitters' fifth straight win but the 15th for a program-record high. The third-year program still has a chance to add onto that feat as the Railsplitters hit the road for their regular-season finale ahead of the Independent Volleyball Association Tournament two weeks from this Saturday.

Quick Hits

-It's hard to believe the Railsplitters' regular-season finale is already here, but it's been a year to remember. LMU's new program win total backs that up along with trips to Division I powerhouses Hawaii and Ohio State. The Railsplitters (15-7) also defeated their first-ever D1 opponent in Quincy University March 16, which was a part of LMU's undefeated record at home (10-0) and current five-match winning streak.

-Evan Cory has been the Railsplitters' anchor this year with his team-leading 322 kills, 418.5 points, 49 service aces, 126 digs and second-best 86.0 blocks in 22 matches played. Those successes on the court has had the junior opposite among the best of the best across the nation all season. He's second in aces per set with 0.620, while sitting in a three-way tie for second with 5.30 points per set.

-Cory is also the nation's 13th best blocker (1.089 per set), while Pedro Carvalho is second with his 1.457 blocks per set that puts the Railsplitters as the nation's sixth best blocking team (2.51 per set).

-LMU is also second in the country in aces (1.94 per set) and 10th in opponent hitting percentage (0.230). AJ Risavy's team-leading 780 assists — with 10 coming per set — is seventh in the nation.

-Before the Railsplitters' fourth-set victory, Erskine held the 1-0 series advantage, which came via a five-set win last March in the first-ever matchup between the two.
