HARROGATE, Tenn. — The Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team ran into a buzz saw on Tuesday afternoon when the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds visited the LMU Lacrosse Complex and handed the Lady Railsplitters a 23-4 defeat.
UIndy (10-1) entered the match ranked 12th nationally in the Division II Women's Lacrosse Poll and proved deserving of that ranking. Lincoln Memorial (9-4) suffered its second consecutive loss of the season, the first time the Lady Railsplitters have lost back-to-back contests in 2019.
The Lady Railsplitters kept the game close for the first 13 minutes of the first half, trailing only 2-1 after a
Rachel Gardner goal at the 24:56 mark, 4-2 after nine minutes and 6-3 after
Amara Moss scored at the 17:34 mark. Then the roof fell in.
The Greyhounds ran off a string of 14 straight goals before
Kelly Csenar stopped the scoring streak with a goal with 11:49 remaining in the match. UIndy scored three more times after that as the game wound down for the 23-4 final. The 23 goals were the most surrendered by LMU this season.
The final stats amplify the Greyhounds' dominance. UIndy outshot LMU 43-14, had a big 31-11 advantage in shots on goal, and controlled the draw line with a 21-8 advantage. Coming into the game, the UIndy defense was allowing only 4.5 goals a game and goalie Cassidy King needed little work to maintain that pace.
Grace Gunneson was the offensive weapon of choice for the visitors, scoring seven goals to increase her season total to 36.
For LMU,
Erin DePaul picked up her 39th goal of the season, Csenar reached the 30-goal mark with a single goal, Moss added her 23rd and Gardner scored her seventh.
The Lady Railsplitters will be in action again Saturday when they return to South Atlantic Conference play against Lenoir-Ryne in a 1 p.m. start at the LMU Lacrosse Complex.
