No. 14 Women's Soccer Keeps Rolling as Palencia Scores in 1-0 win

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — It was a weekend that Sean Fraser called one of the most important of the season.

His No. 14-ranked Lincoln Memorial University women's soccer team played like it was, too, capping off the two-match road trip Sunday in Milledgeville, Ga., with a 1-0 victory over the University of West Georgia to stay undefeated heading into conference play.

The Lady Railsplitters' 4-0 start is the best start since the 2010 team began the season on a nine-game winning streak.

"Great start, team is learning every day and improving," Fraser said. "It's all about continuing that and trusting the process! Games are coming thick and fast and that is allowing us to continue to learn and grow."

LMU's final match in the Bobcat Shootout was scoreless after 45 minutes as the Lady Railsplitters held a 9-5 advantage on shots before firing on all cylinders and locking it down in the second half.

The Wolves (2-2) were only able to get three more shots off while the Lady Railsplitters (4-0) attempted 13 more to out-shoot UWG, 22-8. Of those, LMU needed just one to go ahead. It was Graciela Palencia who used the perfect time to score her first LMU goal, connecting on her one and only shot on goal in the 82nd minute that ended up being the game-winning score.

"First start and first goal for 'G'," Fraser said. "Her energy is infectious, and she continues to contribute in-and-out of possession with real quality! I'm so pleased for her."

Up Next: The Lady Railsplitters are on the road again, traveling to arch-rival Carson-Newman (1-2) for the South Atlantic Conference opener for a 5 p.m. start Wednesday.
