Evan Cory Named Off the Block Independent Teams Player of the Week

Senior opposite tallied 47 kills and 16 digs in helping lead LMU men’s volleyball to a 2-1 start last week

NASHVILLE – After earning Off the Block 2019 Independent Teams Player of the Year recognition, Lincoln Memorial University men's volleyball opposite Evan Cory is off to a strong start to his senior campaign. Picking up his first award of the season after just one week of play, Cory has been named Off the Block Independent Teams Player of the Week the website announced Monday.

Helping lead the Railsplitters to a 2-1 start to the season, the 6-foot-4 Cory tallied 47 kills, six total blocks, four service aces and 16 digs while attacking at a .287 clip and averaging 4.7 kills per set. He held an attack percentage over .300 in two of the three matches and notched at least 11 kills in all three outings.

The Metairie, Louisiana (Holy Cross HS), native rose up for 13 kills and attacked at a .308 mark with six digs, two aces and a block in LMU's season-opening home sweep of Mount Olive last Tuesday night. Cory followed up that performance by registering 26 kills on .326 hitting with six digs and two aces on the road Friday night in a tough four-set match at Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Lindenwood University. He closed out the week Saturday night by claiming 11 kills and five blocks in the Railsplitters' second straight-set victory of the young season at Quincy University.

Cory paced LMU's offense in kills in all three of last week's matches.
