HARROGATE, Tenn. – A fast start by Carson-Newman and a second quarter run allowed the Eagles to pull out the 83-67 win Wednesday evening in the Tex Turner Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
•
Carson-Newman led in the contest from wire to wire after shooting out to an early 18-3 lead.
• LMU rallied to cut it to seven points a two moments in the first quarter and to 29-21 to start the second period.
• The Eagles pulled the lead back to double-digits on the next possession and extended the lead to 44-26 late in the half. LMU would cut the lead to 44-34 at the intermission behind six points from
Sydney Newsome and two from
Lauren Flowers.
• The teams traded baskets throughout the third quarter, with the Eagles using the three-point shot to extend the lead to 65-45 heading into the final stanza.
• LMU outscored the Eagles 22-19 in the final quarter, but could never get the score closer than 13 points for the remainder of the game.
KEY PLAYERS/STATS
•
Sydney Newsome had a career night as she had a career-high 25 points and tied her career high with 12 rebounds. It is her first career double-double.
•
Lauren Flowers chipped in 13 points and four assists.
•
Tytiaira Spikes also had a career night with career highs in both points (10) and rebounds (5).
• Braelyn Wykle led the Eagles with 21 points.
• For the game, LMU out-shot the Eagles from the field 43.6 percent to 42.9 percent.
• The Eagles fared better from behind the three-point arc (44.4% to 31.3%) and the free throw line (84.6%-56.0%) than LMU.
• Carson-Newman out-rebounded LMU 43-34.
UP NEXT
The Lady Railsplitters travel to the Queen City to face the Royals of Queens University Saturday at 2 p.m. Queens are now 4-15 overall and 3-10 in SAC play after falling at Anderson earlier tonight. LMU won the previous meeting this season 58-52.
