Railsplitters Post Sixth-Straight Win Against Queens Friday Night

Cory marks 17 kills, Risavy records 37 assists in straight-set victory over the Royals

HARROGATE, Tenn. -  The Lincoln Memorial University's men's volleyball squad marked their sixth consecutive victory on Friday night with a straight-set win in Mary Mars Gymnasium against the Queens University of Charlotte Royals.

RAILSPLITTER RUNDOWN:
Senior opposite Evan Cory and senior middle hitter Pedro Carvalho opened the contest with a quick 3-0 rally after a trio of kills for the Railsplitters. Over the course of the next 10 or so rallies, no team really pulled away until the Railsplitters put together a six-point run consisting of kills by junior outside hitter Logan Kerley, Cory and the help of a few Queens errors for LMU to take a 19-9 lead in the first set. The Blue and Gray finished the set by winning the next six of nine points with a pair of kills from sophomore middle hitter Dawson Walker and an ace from freshman middle hitter Matthew Gentry to close the opening set. 25-12.
The Railsplitters dominated the second set after tallying 15 kills. Cory led the way with five, Carvalho record three with an ace, Kerley and Walker contributed with three and Negron marked one kill in addition to an ace that led to a 25-16 victory over the Royals heading into the third set.
In the third and final set of play, the Royals and Railsplitters had their closest margin as the Royals had the lead through the first 15 points at 8-7. LMU then compiled a five-point run to take an 11-8 lead over Queens. The Railsplitters scraped by winning the final 14 of 29 points to secure a 25-23 win in the last set for the straight-set victory.

Kills – Cory (17), Kerley (8) and Carvalho (7).
Assists – Junior setter AJ Risavy marked 37 assists on the day for the Railsplitters
Digs – Cory (7), Johansen (7) and Kerley (6).
Blocks – Cory (2), Kerley (2) and Walker (2).
 
UP NEXT!
Railsplitter volleyball will be back on the court on Saturday, Feb. 29, as they will host the Limestone College Saints for a scheduled start of 4 p.m. in Mary Mars Gymnasium.
