Cory Notches 20 Kills in 3-1 Win Over Limestone on Saturday Afternoon

HARROGATE, Tenn. -  The Lincoln Memorial University's men's volleyball crew stretched their winning streak to seven games after 3-1 victory over Limestone College on Saturday afternoon.

RAILSPLITTER RUNDOWN:
The Limestone College Saints started out with the lead over the Railsplitters throughout the first 20 points of play in the opening set marking an 11-9 score until LMU produced a five-point run and never looked back. The Railsplitters took advantage of a service error and a pair of attack errors by the Saints as freshman middle hitter Matthew Gentry marked a pair of kills to complete the run to give LMU a 14-11 lead. Eight of the final 11 Railsplitter points came from Limestone errors, sophomore outside hitter Johansen Negron marked a lone kill in addition to Gentry contributing with another pair of kills to close the first set 25-19.  

The Blue and Gray noted their largest lead of the second set at five after a pair of aces from senior opposite Evan Cory for an 8-3 lead. Over the next portion of the second set there was five lead changes in favor of both squads up until the 15-15 mark. The Railsplitters won 10 of the following 15 points to take the second set 25-20.

Negron posted four kills in the third set which was the leading mark in kills for the Railsplitters in the third set as Cory only marked three. The offensive effort was not up-to-par as the Saints took the third set 25-20.

Cory and the Railsplitters kicked it back into gear for the fourth set as the opposite tallied eight kills and two aces. Negron contributed with a pair of kills and aces in a stretch of taking six of seven points to give LMU a dominating 18-9 lead over the Saints. The Railsplitters finished the contest after winning seven of the final 10 points to conclude the match, 3-1.

LEADING THE WAY:
Cory counted for 20 kills in Saturday's contest against the Saints with four aces and 13 digs.

Negron marked 10 kills, two aces, three assists and eight digs.

Railsplitter volleyball will continue their stay in Harrogate and will host Emmanuel College on Tuesday, Mar. 10, at 7 p.m. in Mary Mars Gymnasium.
