Late scoring drought dooms LMU at Lenoir-Rhyne 56-52

HICKORY, N.C. – A late scoring drought proved costly as Lenoir-Rhyne took advantage to claw back from six points down in the fourth quarter and grab the 56-52 win from LMU Wednesday evening.

The Lady Railsplitters are now 7-12 overall and 6-9 in SAC play with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lindsay Proffitt scored five quick points as LMU went out to the early 5-2 lead. The Bears then scored six points to lead 8-5 before a Lexi Kiser trey tied things up at 8-8. The teams then each hit two free throws apiece to remain knotted at 10-10 after one quarter.
• The offense on both sides opened up in the second quarter, with the Bears grabbing a four point lead. LMU would come back and lead by two, only to see the Bears tie it up at 27-27. Neither team would score over the last 2:30 of the half.
• L-R would score four unanswered points to open the half, but then went cold from the field. LMU took advantage with a 10-0 run.
• The Lady Railsplitters would maintain the lead for the remainder of the quarter and led 45-40 at the quarter break.
• LMU would pull back out to a 49-43 lead with 6:46 remaining.
• The Lady Railsplitters then went ice cold from the field for the remainder of the game, only scoring a free throw and a basket, all from Newsome, and the Bears took advantage to grab the lead with 2:40 to go and hold on for the win.

KEY PLAYERS/STATS
Sydney Newsome came off the bench to score 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
• Lauren Flowers added in ten points, including a perfect 4-4 performance at the charity stripe.
• Maggie Jachimczuk returned to the lineup for the first time since the Queens game on Dec. 7 and scored
• Nakia Hooks and Karlie Bearden each had 13 points to lead Lenoir-Rhyne in scoring.
• For the game, Lenoir-Rhyne out-shot LMU from the field 37.7 percent to 29.6 percent.
• LMU fared better from behind the three-point arc (29.4% to 20.0%) and the free throw line (68.2%-65.0%) than the Bears.
• LMU mauled the Bears on the boards by a 47-34 margin.
• The Lady Railsplitters had 24 turnovers, while L-R had 19.
