Second-Ranked Railsplitter Hoops Top Seed for 2020 SAC Tournament, Host Eighth-Seeded Mars Hill Wednesday

LMU hosts Lions in a 7 p.m. tip-off Wednesday, March 4 inside Tex Turner Arena

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Riding the longest winning streak among all levels of NCAA basketball, the Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball team will take its nation-leading 29-game win streak into the 2020 South Atlantic Conference Pilot Flying J Men's Basketball Tournament as the No. 1 seed.

The Railsplitters, who continue to elongate the program and conference-record for consecutive victories, will take on eighth-seeded Mars Hill University in the quarterfinal round of the league's postseason championship Wednesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. inside B. Frank "Tex" Turner Arena in Harrogate, Tennessee.

Taylor Family Chiropractic will serve as the official sponsor of LMU's 2020 postseason.

Wednesday's game will be streamed live via SAC Live on Stretch Internet, while live statistics of the game can be followed by visiting LMURailsplitters.com. The voice of the Railsplitters, Rusty Peace, will have the call of the game. As usual, in-game updates will be available on LMU Railsplitter athletics' official Twitter account, @LMURailsplitter.

Entering Wednesday night with a 29-1 overall record, the Railsplitters completed their third undefeated SAC season in five years with a 75-55 rout of Anderson University inside Tex Turner Arena Saturday. Led by sophomore guard Courvoisier McCauley's third-straight double-double of 18 points and a career-high 18 rebounds, LMU finished league play an unblemished 22-0 while improving to 17-0 in 2020 and 16-0 at home this season. The Railsplitters also went unscathed in SAC action in 2017-18 (20-0) and 2015-16 (22-0).

Earlier this season, LMU defeated the Lions by an average of 25 points, winning a 100-79 affair in Harrogate and routing Mars Hill 98-69 inside Stanford Arena in North Carolina. The Railsplitters have won their last 22 outings with the Lions and have not suffered a setback to Mars Hill in over 10 years. LMU is 20-4 against the Lions inside Tex Turner Arena and leads the all-time series 38-9.

Mars Hill closed out its regular season 12-16 overall after posting a 10-12 mark in SAC play. This past Saturday, the Lions nearly upset second-seeded and receiving-votes Queens University of Charlotte in Mars Hill, falling by just a point (72-71) on senior day. In the closing seconds, the Lions had the ball but were unable to get a shot off despite getting into the lane.

Queens finished second in the league race with a 17-5 conference to earn the No. 2 seed in SAC Pilot Flying J Men's Basketball Tournament. Catawba is the No. 3 seed after posting a 14-8 SAC record while Tusculum is the No. 4 seed (13-9), followed by fifth-seeded Anderson (12-10), No. 6 seed Newberry (10-12) and seventh-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne (10-12). The Wolves won the tiebreaker over the Bears and Mars Hill by virtue of its 3-1 record versus the other two teams. Lenoir-Rhyne won the tiebreaker over the Lions based on its 2-0 record versus Mars Hill.

The 2020 SAC Pilot Flying J Men's Basketball Tournament quarterfinals are played at campus sites on Wednesday, March 4, before moving to Timmons Arena on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, for the semifinals and finals this Friday-Saturday, March 7-8.

The SAC Pilot Flying J Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship.

Should the Railsplitters be victorious in Wednesday night's quarterfinal contest, LMU will take on the winner of fourth-seeded Tusculum and No. 5 seed Anderson Saturday at 5 p.m. in Greenville, South Carolina, for a spot in the 2020 SAC Pilot Flying J Men's Basketball Tournament title game Sunday, March 8 at 4 p.m. inside Timmons Arena.
