ANDERSON, S.C. – The Lincoln Memorial women's volleyball team battled and fought for five sets but fell to Anderson on Friday night in five (17-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 7-15).
Richlyn Ross paced the Lady Railsplitter offense with 14 kills on the night while posting a .44 hitting percentage. Junior
Sierrah Lemons posted another career night as she tallied a career-high nine total blocks and tied her career-high in kills with nine while recording a .615 hitting percentage. Libero
Sevgi Koyuncu tallied 34 digs, which was a new career-high for the Ankara, Turkey native.
Noelle Knutsen recorded 24 kills while hitting .455 on the night to help the Trojans secure the win. Four different Anderson players tallied double-digit digs, with three tallying 11 digs each. The Trojan setter tallied 52 assists in the match.
Both programs battled for the first points as it came out 2-2- after four trades. Anderson then used a four-point run to make it 7-3. Continuing their hot hitting, the Trojans were able to push their lead to 12-5. Lincoln Memorial was able to pull to within three, but Anderson was able to keep the Splitter offense calm to secure the first set, 25-17.
The second set came out with both programs on fire, but this time the Lady Railsplitters were able to create some separation with little runs to help bring the score to 14-11 LMU. A timeout by Anderson allowed them to gain two points, but Lincoln Memorial was able to continue their separation until the Trojans used a three-point urn to make it 20-20. The Lady Railsplitters were able to continue their presence and secured the second set win, 25-22.
The third set went quick as the Trojans jumped out to a 7-5 lead. The Lady Railsplitters were able to pull to within one at 10-9. Using quick offensive burst, Anderson was able to control the third as they were able to use a three-point run to create that separation to secure the third set win, 25-20.
The fourth set began with the Trojans taking a 5-3 lead, but that was before the Lady Railsplitters used a three-point run to take the lead and did not give up the lead the rest of the set. Much like the second set win by LMU, the Splitters offense used numerous three-run burst to nail down a fourth set victory, 25-21.
The Trojans offense came out on fire in the fifth set as they took the 5-1 lead into a Lady Railsplitter timeout. Lincoln Memorial tried to mount a comeback, but a four-point run by Anderson secured the Trojans the fifth set, and win, 15-7.
