CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Going on the road to face one of the best teams in the conference, who also happens to be their biggest rival, the Lincoln Memorial women's soccer team knew they were facing a tough task. They gave second-place Queens all they could handle, before falling on the road 2-0.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Isabelle Zukaitis made her fourth start in net this afternoon, picking up five saves and holding the Royals offense at bay for most of the game.
Queens got on the board in the 13
th minute to take an early lead, but that was all they would be able to get in the first half, as Zukaitis and the defense kept it at 1-0 going into half. The Royals had a chance to add to the lead late in the half, but Zukaitis saved a shot, and then a follow-up shot was blocked by a Lady Railsplitter defender to keep their deficit at one.
The Royals would add another goal in the 68
th minute to double their lead. That is were the scoring would end for both teams, as the two goalkeepers held the offenses scoreless for the next 20 minutes.
The Lady Railsplitters were not able to get much going offensively, only attempting four shots all game, with two of them being on goal.
Katherine Browning and
Jessica Cravero provided those two shots on goal, but nothing was able to come of those shots.
The win keeps Queens deadlocked in second with Lenoir-Rhyne, just three points behind first-place Catawba heading into the showdown between the Royals and Indians on Wednesday.
