Women's Soccer Secures SAC Tournament Place Following Senior Day Victory

Lady Railsplitters defeat Anderson 3-2

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University women's soccer team clinched their spot in this season's South Atlantic Conference Tournament, sealing their place with a senior day victory over the Trojans of Anderson 3-2.

Prior to the match, the women's soccer program alongside its fans honored five decorated Lady Railsplitters, who have achieved 41 victories together, in addition to two SAC Tournament championships. Seniors Fabienne Loetscher, Jessica Cravero, Graciela Palencia and Rachel Taylor, and graduate student Mariana Diaz. The senior class won its 42nd game together, and senior Jessica Cravero scored her fifth-career goal in the Blue & Grey Saturday afternoon against Anderson.

The Trojans held the Lady Railsplitters out of the lead for much of the first half, until the Blue & Grey found the back of the net on the stroke of halftime. Straight out of the gates in the second period of play, LMU twice scored, pushing their advantage out to three-nil just 20 minutes in. The Trojans fought valiantly, scoring two late goals, pushing for an equalizer at the LMU Lacrosse Complex Saturday afternoon. The Lady Railsplitter defense held Anderson out, sealing all three points to secure the team's place in the 2021 SAC Tournament.

The talented freshman dutchman was all over the pitch today, as winger Kyara Vanheuverswijn provided two goals involvements for LMU, scoring her first-collegiate finish in Saturday's second half. Vanheuverswijn provided the Lady Railsplitters' opener on a platter in the first half for the goal-scoring Italian.

Captain Mariana Diaz scored her first goal of the season today off a corner kick, which proved to be a decisive third goal prior to the Trojan's second half comeback.

The Lady Railsplitters moved up to sixth-place in the SAC standings Saturday evening following their 3-2 victory, and are level on points with fifth-place Limestone who maintain a higher goal-differential. LMU could rise to the five-seed in next weekend's quarterfinal if they defeat the Saints of Limestone on Wednesday.
