Women's Volleyball Falls at Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. – The Lincoln Memorial women's volleyball team began a two-game road stand on Friday night but fell in the opening contest at Wingate in three sets (25-27, 19-25, 19-25).
 
Sophomore Ketura Margaret paced the Lady Railsplitters offensively with 12 kills on 34 attacks in the contest. Margaret also tallied five total blocks and eight digs. Senior Emily Walter recorded 15 assists and a service ace on the night. Libero Sevgi Koyuncu led Lincoln Memorial defensively with 17 digs.
 
Lorna Stacherski led the Bulldogs to the win with 10 kills and three digs. Libero Taryn Pryce led Wingate defensively with 14 digs while Katie Jamerson assisted on 21 kills in the contest.
 
The match between the Lady Railsplitters and Bulldogs got out to a battle to begin with the teams trading points back and forth until LMU was able to take a 4-2 lead. Wingate was able to respond with a four-point run to make it 7-5 Wingate. The Bulldogs were able to create some separation, but the Lady Railsplitters were able to use a four-point run to make it 24 all. Tying things up at 25 all was it for LMU as the Bulldogs took the first set, 27-25.
 
Continuing their offensive output from the first set, Wingate was able to jump out to an 8-3 lead to begin the second set. The Lady Railsplitters were able to bring it to within four just moments later, but Wingate kept the hot streak going before Lincoln Memorial made one last push to make it 23-18. The Bulldogs went onto turn it right around and take the set, 25-19.
 
Both the Lady Railsplitters and Bulldogs battled to begin the third set with Wingate taking a 10-6 lead into a LMU timeout. The Lady Railsplitters responded, but the Bulldogs answered right back. Wingate kept using three-point runs to create some separation. Lincoln Memorial made one last push with a four-point run to make it 22-16, but it was not enough as Wingate took the third set, and match, 25-19.

The Lady Railsplitters will travel to Hartsville, South Carolina for a South Atlantic Conference contest with Coker University. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. EST inside the Harris E. & Louise H. DeLoach Center.
