Women's Volleyball Falls to Carson-Newman

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University women's volleyball fell to in-state rival Carson-Newman on Tuesday night in three sets (20-25, 14-25, 19-25) at the Mary Mars Gym.
 
Sophomore Ketura Margaret lead the Lady Railsplitters in the match with 12 kills and picked up seven digs along the way. Sevgi Koyuncu continued to be a force on the defensive front with 19 digs in the match. Senior Emily Walter helped out offensively has she tallied 23 assists in the contest.
 
The Lady Railsplitters to the first point of the set, but the Eagles were able to rebound and jumped out to 11-5 lead.  Lincoln Memorial was able to control the set for a bit as they brought the C-N lead to one. Keeping up their offensive power, Carson-Newman was able to capture the first set, 25-20.
 
The Eagles went up 3-0 to begin the second set, but Lincoln Memorial was able to stop the Eagle run as they brought the score to 4-3. Using a seven-point run, C-N was able to take a 12-4 lead before using another run just moments later to push their lead to 17-5. The Eagles went onto take the second set, 25-14.
 
Carson-Newman jumped out to another 3-0 lead, but Lincoln memorial used a five-point run to take the lead. The Eagles then rebounded with a run of their own to retake the lead. The Lady Railsplitters retook the lead after using a three-point run to take a 15-12 lead. The Eagles battled back and both programs were locked in a 19-19 tie before C-N closed out the set with a five-point run. Carson-Newman captured the third set, and match, 25-19.

The Lady Railsplitters will begin a two-game road stand with a match at Limestone on Saturday, November 6. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. EST.
