Women's Volleyball Battles Limestone to the Brink

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Lincoln Memorial University women's volleyball program battled the Saints of Limestone to the brink, but fell in five sets (15-25, 18-25, 25-20, 26-24, 10-15) on Saturday afternoon.
 
Two Splitters tallied double-digit kills with senior Gabriela Abreu notching 11 kills and sophomore Kristen Moehring recorded 10 kills. Senior Emily Walter tallied 32 assists and tacked on 18 digs to earn her 11th double-double of the season. LMU was touted on the defensive end in the contest as Kaley Long recorded six total blocks with Sierrah Lemons and Richlyn Ross adding five each.
 
Both programs were able to keep each other in check as the first set broke out to a 6-6 tie. Using a six-point run just moments later, the Saints were able to capture the lead 16-11. Lincoln Memorial tried to mount a comeback, but Limestone was able to capture the first set, 25-15.
 
The Lady Railsplitters jumped out to a 4-2 lead, but Limestone was able to rebound before the programs were locked in another 6-6 tie. The Saints were able to create separation, giving them a 20-14 lead after the Splitters and Limestone traded serves. The Saints closed out the second set, capturing it 25-20, over LMU.
 
Limestone was able to jump out to a 7-5 lead to begin the third set, but the Lady Railsplitters had different ideas for the set. Using multiple little runs, Lincoln Memorial was able to take a 14-12 lead and keeping the separation till the final point when LMU took the third set on a solo block by Lemons.
 
Jumping out to another early lead, Limestone was able to hold off the Lady Railsplitters for the time being, but LMU was able to battle back. Lincoln Memorial was down 22-16 but stormed back to force the set to prolong. Needing just two extra points, the Lady Railsplitters were able to capture the fourth set, 26-14.
 
Limestone opened the fifth set on a four-point run before the Lady Railsplitters were able to cease it. The Saints were able to continue their explosive offense as they used a four-point run to help seal the five set win over the Lady Railsplitters.

The Lady Railsplitters will travel to Wise, Virginia for a SAC match up with UVA Wise on Friday, November 12 with a 7 p.m. first serve time.
