Lady Railsplitters Defeat Queens In Final Regular Season Home Contest Saturday Afternoon

Huge third quarter leads to blowout victory

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Using a huge third quarter run, the Lincoln Memorial University women's basketball team (8-9, 7-9 South Atlantic Conference) cruised to a 75-52 victory in their final regular season home game of 2020-21.

After going into the halftime break with a six point lead, the Lady Railsplitters came out of the locker room with ferocity. Although the Royals made an early three pointer to counteract a Maggie Jachimczuk free throw. A 14-0 run saw Lindsay Proffitt, Lauren Flowers, Lexi Kiser, and Jordan Maney record baskets as LMU increased their lead to 51-33. Queens made a basket to cut the lead to 16, but the Lady Railsplitters scored the final 11 points of the quarter. All told, the stifling LMU defense paved the way for a 26-5 third quarter margin and the Lady Railsplitters cruised from there on out.

Earlier in the contest, Queens jumped out to an early lead as Kalaya Hall made the first shot of the game by draining a three pointer. An Amari Davis jumper extended their lead to five before Lexi Kiser took the cover off for LMU with a layup. Another Royals basket made the game 7-2, but the Lady Railsplitters scored the next five points on a Proffitt jumper and a Flowers three pointer. Maney's three pointer then gave LMU a lead they would hold for the rest of the contest.

The team traded baskets for the next few minutes before two Mikayla Kuehne free throws extended the Lady Railsplitters lead back to five. Two Kiser free throws and a Nakia Weston layup finished out the scoring in the period and saw LMU hold a nine point lead.

Queens scored the first four points of the second quarter to close to within five, but Kiser responded with a jumper. After each team was unable to gain much ground, an and-one from Jachimczuk and a Maney jumper saw the Lady Railsplitters attain their first double digit lead of the game. Kuehne added another layup; however, the Royals battled back with nine of the next eleven points to get within six at halftime.

Proffitt's three pointer to open the fourth saw LMU with a 30 point lead and the game was never within 20 after that. Proffitt dominated the period with several baskets while Kassidy Kenny closed out the scoring with two free throws.

Maney led the offensive charge with 17 points, while Proffitt recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Flowers finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists while Jachimczuk had 12 points and six rebounds on her senior day.

LMU will look to end the regular season on a winning note as they travel to Carson-Newman on Wednesday, Feb. 24. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
