MARS HILL, N.C. - Despite posting their best offensive performance of the season with 11 goals, the Lincoln Memorial University men's lacrosse team (0-3, 0-3 South Atlantic Conference) fell to Mars Hill by a score of 19-11 on the road Wednesday evening.
The Lions started the game on a 4-0 run before
Nico Cicco scored his fifth goal of the season to cut into the lead with just under six minutes to go in the opening period. Two more Mars Hill goals extended the lead to five at the end of the quarter, including a score with just one second on the clock.
Two
Chapman Parker goals sliced the Lion lead to three halfway through the second quarter, but three straight goals from Mars Hill extended the lead out to six.
Kevin Jendrasik scored his second goal of the year to cut the lead to five heading into the locker room.
Four consecutive goals ballooned the lead to nine goals before Jendrasik's second score of the game ended the run. Mars Hill scored once again and
Dane Knight-Turcan equaled it to get LMU within 14-6 at the end of the third period.
Another Knight-Turcan score in the fourth quarter cut the lead back to eight goals, but consecutive Mars Hill scores extended the lead to ten and effectively ended the contest. The Railsplitters did score four of the last six goals in the contest, including the first goals of
Matt Bradley and
Ryan Gossett's LMU careers. Gossett's score came just before the buzzer to provide the final margin.
Parker led the offensive charge with three goals while Jendrasik, Cicco, and Knight-Turcan all notched multiple scores.
Trenton Cameron had an excellent game in between the pipes with 16 saves and a team-high nine ground balls.Â
LMU will look to bounce back this weekend as they travel to Limestone on Saturday, Mar. 13.
