Lady Railsplitters Finish Short Versus UVA Wise

Five Lady Railsplitters notch goals in defeat on Wednesday afternoon

WISE, Va. – The Lincoln Memorial University Lady Railsplitter lacrosse crew fell short to conference-opponent University of Virginia's College at Wise on Wednesday afternoon.
 
THE RUNDOWN
Junior attack Kelly Csenar was the first to strike successfully on the afternoon for LMU at the 21:44 minute-mark to knot the score at one apiece. Within 30 seconds, the hosting Cavaliers went on a five-goal run over the next 9:16 to establish a commanding lead. Junior midfielder Avery Van Der Ziel ended the Cavaliers' run with an unassisted goal to mark a 2-6 score. Senior midfielder Jacquelin Turner was able to connect with junior attack Sierra Landsman for a man-up goal to continue exchanging blows with UVA Wise, to bring the score to 3-7.
 
UVA Wise then compiled another five-goal run spanning over 5:11 of game time to extend a lead to 12-3 over the visiting Lady Railsplitters. Sophomore attack Ali Van Der Ziel and Avery Van Der Ziel went back-to-back with goals, attempting to close the gap as it stood 5-12 with 19:36 on the clock.
 
The Cavaliers closed out the game with a four-goal run with 8:38 to widen the margin in the second half. Junior attack Michaela Clark marked the final Lady Railsplitter goal in the closing minutes of the 6-16 defeat.
 
IN BETWEEN THE PIPES
UVA – Jordan Edwards had six saves and six goals against in the victory for the Cavaliers.
LMU – Sophomore goalkeeper Keegan Gillman clocked in 48:38 of game time allowing 15 goals and 13 saves. Senior goalkeeper Micayla Starnes had one goal against and a pair of saves for LMU.
 
TEAM STATS
LMU trailed in shots (16-43), shots on goal (12-31), turnovers (21-15), ground balls (16-20), and draw controls (9-15), and led in free-position shots (6-4), successful clears (14-13), and saves (15-6).
 
HEAD-TO-HEAD
After today's setback, the Lady Railsplitters fall to 0-6 against UVA Wise dating back to 2015.
