WINGATE, N.C. - Playing their first contest in 15 days, the Lincoln Memorial University men's lacrosse team fell to eighth-ranked Wingate on the road Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Railsplitters drop to 0-5 (0-5 South Atlantic Conference) on the season.
Peppering LMU with 73 shots on the afternoon and forcing 24 Railsplitter turnovers, the Bulldogs were dominant from the outset and pitched a shutout in the first half as they went into the locker room with a 12-0 lead. The Railsplitters got scores from
Chapman Parker,
Nico Cicco, and
Dane Knight-Turcan over the final two periods, but twelve more Wingate goals provided the final margin as LMU was unable to capitalize on several good opportunities. Cicco put pressure on the goal all day long with five total shots on goal.
Nathan Caldwell led the defensive charge with five ground balls and two caused turnovers while five other players had three ground balls each as the team posted 33 on the day.Â
Caldon Whyte made 14 saves in goal while
Hunter Rinehart chipped in with two.
The Railsplitters will have five days off before traveling to Charlotte, N.C. to take on nationally-ranked Queens. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
