Railsplitters Fall Victim To Nationally-Ranked Queens

Royals win 22-6

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Playing their third nationally-ranked opponent in as many contests, the Lincoln Memorial University men's lacrosse team fell to Queens 22-6 on the road Saturday afternoon. With the defeat, the Railsplitters fall to 0-6 (0-6 South Atlantic Conference) on the season.

Queens got out to a very quick start, putting three scores on the board in the first two and a half minutes. Leading point man Nico Cicco whittled the deficit to two goals with his first score of the game, but the Royals were off and running. Four more goals gave them an astounding 7-1 lead just eight minutes into the game before Matt Bradley notched his third goal of the year to staunch the bleeding. However, Queens scored the final two goals of the period to take a 9-2 lead after the opening 15 minutes of play.

The Royals put the next six points on the board to take a commanding advantage before Chapman Parker notched his eighth goal of the year. Queens matched the score with their own to take a 16-3 lead into the halftime break.

The Railsplitters were noticeably more competitive in the second half as they held the Royals to six goals while scoring three of their own, which included a 3-2 margin in the third quarter. Cicco and Parker accounted for all three scores as they have now combined for 20 on the season.

Cicco led LMU with three goals while Parker added two and Bradley had one. Parker also led the defensive charge with three ground balls and Caldon Whyte made 15 saves in goal.

The Railsplitters are back in action this coming Wednesday, Apr. 7 as they travel to Tusculum. The matchup is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
