HICKORY, N.C. - Playing their seventh straight road match, the Lincoln Memorial University men's lacrosse team battled hard in the second half and tied nationally-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne with five goals apiece after halftime. However, a dominant first half saw the Bears grab a twelve goal lead in their 18-6 victory. With the loss, LMU falls to 0-7 (0-7 SAC) on the season.
After a first quarter that saw Lenoir-Rhyne take a 7-0 lead, the Railsplitters began to mount a rally. Four more goals from the Bears saw the lead expand to double digits before
Nico Cicco scored an unassisted goal. Two more scores gave Lenoir-Rhyne a 13-1 lead at halftime, setting the stage for a very competitive second half.
LMU came out of the locker room with energy and notched the first two scores, which were courtesy of Cicco and
Blake Moxim. Lenoir-Rhyne responded with four goals, but the Railsplitters were far from finished.
Chapman Parker scored all three of his goals in the final period, countering a lone goal from the Bears to provide the final margin.
Parker led LMU with three goals in defeat while Cicco had two and Moxim scored one.
Nathan Caldwell and
Jordan Sullivan led the charge defensively with four ground balls each while Sullivan made an even greater impact with six caused turnovers.
Trenton Cameron and
Caldon Whyte combined for 16 saves in goal.
The Railsplitters will have several days off before heading to Hartsville, S.C. to take on Coker this coming Wednesday, Apr. 14. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
