HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Playing their fifth consecutive game against a team ranked in the national poll, the Lincoln Memorial University men's lacrosse team traveled to Coker and fell by a score of 17-8. With the loss, the team drops to 0-8 (0-8 South Atlantic Conference) on the season.
The contest started well for the Railsplitters as
Nico Cicco matched an early score by the Cobras and then added a second goal just over two minutes later to give LMU a 2-1 lead. Coker tied the score later in the period, but
Dane Knight-Turcan gave the Railsplitters a 3-2 lead heading into the second quarter.
The Cobras came out firing in the second period with seven consecutive goals to open up a 9-3 lead.
Chapman Parker then notched his first score of the contest to close LMU within five goals as the teams went into the locker room, making the score 9-4.
Coming out of halftime, two
Matt Bradley goals matched three scores from Coker and got LMU within 12-6 less than halfway through the period. Consecutive scores by the Cobras finished out the scoring in the third quarter and took a 14-6 lead into the final stanza.
Cicco and Parker each scored once again in the fourth quarter to offset three goals from the Cobras and provide the final nine-goal margin.
Cicco led the Railsplitters offensively once again with three goals and LMU's lone assist of the day while Bradley and Parker each had two scores.
Jordan Sullivan had another excellent performance on the defensive end with four ground balls and three caused turnovers while Bradley had three ground balls.
Caldon Whyte played all 60 minutes in net and finished the game with a season and career high 19 saves.
LMU will continue their road trip this weekend as they travel to Newberry on Saturday, Apr. 17. The match is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m.
