Men's Lacrosse Drops First Road Contest

Defeated by Catawba 20-7

SALISBURY, N.C. - In their first road game of the 2021 season, the Lincoln Memorial University men's lacrosse team fell to rv Catawba by a score of 20-7. With the loss, the Railsplitters drop to 0-2 (0-2 South Atlantic Conference) on the year.

Catawba began the game with a score just 14 seconds in to take the 1-0 lead, but LMU responded quickly. Leading scorer Nico Cicco and Kevin Jendrasik scored back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead with under ten minutes to play in the opening stanza. Jendrasik's goal was his first of the season.

Three goals within a forty-second span gave Catawba a 4-2 lead, and that was extended before the end of the period by two Christian Norrie scores. The teams went into the second quarter with the Indians leading 6-2.

Catawba's sixth and seventh consecutive goals gave them a 8-2 lead with six minutes to play before the half. Chapman Parker scored the first goal of this Railsplitter career in an effort to jump-start the comeback, but the Indians scored again and carried a 9-3 lead into the locker room.

The first six minutes out of the halftime break saw lots of action but no scoring. However, Catawba broke the deadlock with three consecutive goals in a two minute span. Another goal extended the lead to double digits before Cicco scored once again for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Another Catawba goal was matched by Parker, but the Indians scored yet again with 11 seconds left in the period and carried a ten goal lead into the final quarter.

The Indians scored just six seconds into the final period, but Parker matched them with his third goal of the day. Dane Knight-Turcan then scored the first goal of his LMU career to get the game within single digits, and Catawba finished out the game with four straight goals to provide the final margin.

Parker led the offensive charge with three goals while Cicco posted his second consecutive performance with multiple scores. Nathan Caldwell had an excellent game defensively with six ground balls as James Turley added five. Jordan Sullivan also made a significant impact with a team-high three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Trenton Cameron and Caldon Whyte both finished the contest with seven saves.

The Railsplitters will look to bounce back against Mars Hill on the road this coming Wednesday, March 10. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
