CHARLESTON, W.V. – The Lincoln Memorial men's soccer team held tough in a close 1-0 loss against the defending Division II National Champions University of Charleston. This was the Railsplitters final exhibition match before the regular season starts this week.
In a good test against a quality opponent, the Railsplitter defense was up to the challenge. They held tough all afternoon not allowing the Golden Eagles to get anything on offense, until the 81
st minutes as Charleston was able to put on in the back of the net. Offensively, the Railsplitters had multiple opportunities, but were just not able to find their rhythm.
"Obviously to play the number one team in the country and the defending national champions, it's going to be an extremely challenging test. I thought we played extremely well and were able to grow throughout the match, so a lot of positives to take from today's performance," stated head coach
Robert Spain. "To play Charleston well should give us a ton of confidence heading into the season. I'm excited to get back to training and prepare for the regular season to begin."
The regular season begins this Thursday, September 2
nd in Alabama as the Raisplitters take on Montevallo University. The home slate begins on Sunday, September 5
th, as LMU welcomes West Alabama to Harrogate.
