HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University women's volleyball fell in a South Atlantic Conference match on Friday night as Queens came to Mary Mars Gymnasium and battled the Lady Railsplitters, but LMU fell in three sets (16-25, 23-25, 14-25).
Sophomore
Ketura Margaret led the Lady Railsplitter offense on the night with seven kills on 26 attacks. Senior
Emily Walter recorded 12 assists on the night and tagged on five digs to her line while libero
Karen Morris led the LMU defense with 14 digs. Senior
Sevgi Koyuncu led the Lady Railsplitters on the serve with two service aces.
Lindsay Elmore led the Royals with nine kills on .500 hitting percentage while Brooke Farley tallied 28 assists with five digs. The Queens' libero also recorded 16 digs with her four assists. Overall, the Royals hit .224 for the match while limiting the Lady Railsplitter offense to just a .051 hitting percentage.
The first set went in favor of the Royals 25-16. Queens started the set out on a 5-0 run before a kill by
Kaley Long broke up the run. The Royals returned the lead to five and never looked back. LMU got the score to 14-11, but Queens was able to turn up the heat to escape with the set win.
The second set favored the Royals for a 7-0 run before a attack error by Queens gave the Lady Railsplitters their first point of the set. The Royals went onto push their lead to 16-4, but LMU was not out of the fight as the Lady Railsplitters used a 5-0 run to bring the set to within seven. LMU continued to mount a comeback, but Queens was able to get kills at the right time to capture a 25-23 set win.
The third set was a back and forth affair to begin before Queens was able to use a five-point run to take a 13-6 lead. The Royals kept their lead and captured the third set, and match, 25-14, over the Lady Railsplitters.
UP NEXT: The Lady Railsplitters will turn their attention to Saturday, Sept. 11 when they welcome Catawba to the Mary Mars Gymnasium for a South Atlantic Conference match. First serve is set for 6 p.m. EST.
