HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University women's volleyball fell on Saturday evening in South Atlantic Conference play to Catawba in three sets (23-25, 14-25, 16-25).
Sophomore
Kristen Moehring paced the Lady Railsplitter offense on the night with nine kills on 18 attacks. Senior
Emily Walter and freshman
Chloe Britton split time at setter and both producing double-digit assists with Walter tallying 15 while Britton added 14. Libero
Karen Morris led the LMU defense with 18 digs in the contest.
Allison Bryant paced the Lady Indians with 12 kills on 38 attacks while Ashley Johnson also tallied double-digit kills as she added 10 to her stat line. Catawba's libero, Gabrielle Kuzma, tallied 26 digs and added a kill and an assist.
The first set got out to a back-and-forth battle between the programs before LMU was able to create some separation with a 6-4 lead, but that did not matter as Catawba answered with their own three-point run to retake the lead. The Lady Indians turned the separation in their favor to a 15-10 lead, but the Lady Railsplitters were able to even things up. Both squads battled, but a succession kill and service ace by Allison Bryant gave Catawba a 25-23 set one win.
The second set saw the Lady Indians break out to a 9-2 lead to open the set. Catawba controlled the second and never looked back. The Lady Railsplitters turned their focus to the final set after dropping the second set, 25-14, to the Lady Indians.
The Lady Railsplitters got out to a early 5-0 lead courtesy of senior
Sevgi Koyuncu who recorded two services aces and the LMU defense forced two attack errors on the Lady Indians. Catawba soon settled down and took a 7-6 lead and never gave it back. Using a 6-0 run, the Lady Indians were able to create some separation that allowed them to capture the third set, and match, 25-16, over the Lady Railsplitters.
