Lady Railsplitters Fall in Five Sets to King

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University women's volleyball program got out to a hot start against King University, but a decisive fifth set went to the Tornadoes as they took a five set thriller on Tuesday night.
 
Three Lady Railsplitters tallied double-digit kills with Ketura Margaret leading the way with 16 while Richlyn Ross and Kristen Moehring tallied 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Senior Emily Walter recorded another double-double on the year with 23 assists and 15 digs, while freshman Chloe Britton tallied her second career double-double with 25 assists and 20 digs. Sevgi Koyuncu got the starting nod at libero for LMU and recorded 31 digs and added four service aces.
 
Julie Ward led King on the night with 16 kills on 77 attacks. She also added 15 digs to record a double-double in the match. Two other Tornado players also recorded Georgia Davis added 15 assists and 15 digs while Katie Jarless recorded 27 assists and 15 digs.
 
The first set saw both programs trade points before the Lady Railsplitters were able to take a three-point lead before a Tornado substitution. King then bounced back to retake the lead at 20-19 and did not give it back up as the Tornadoes took set one, 25-23.
 
King jumped out to an early 6-3 lead over LMU to begin the second, but the Lady Railsplitters got their offense going at the right time as they took a 15-13 lead off a five-point run. Despite the Tornadoes retaking the lead, Lincoln Memorial was able to regain control and take the second set, 25-21.
 
The third set saw the Lady Railsplitters control the set early and often, but King was able to keep up and brought the score to within one of LMU. The Lady Railsplitters kept their separation at three points throughout the third set. LMU was able to get a 2-1 game advantage over King after capturing the third set, 25-21.
 
The Lady Railsplitters and the Tornadoes got into a stalemate of trading points back-and-forth before King was able to create some separation with a six-point run to take a 17-12 lead. The Lady Railsplitters came within five points of King, but the Tornadoes closed out the set, 25-18.
 
The fifth set was a back-and-forth affair until King took an 8-7 lead at the halfway point. The Lady Railsplitters came out firing of the break as they went on a five-point run to take a 12-8 lead. Only eight more points were scored after that with the Tornadoes picking up seven points to take the fifth set, 15-13.
