Women's Volleyball Captures Sweep over UVA Wise

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial women's volleyball program captured their first South Atlantic Conference win of the season has they swept UVA Wise, 3-0, on Friday night at Mary Mars Gymnasium.
 
Sophomore Ketura Margaret paced the Lady Railsplitter offense as she tallied nine kills on a .278 hitting percentage. Senior Emily Walter posted 16 assists and added a kill of her own, while freshman Chloe Britton added 15 assists and recorded a career-high five service aces.
 
The first set saw the programs trade the first four points of the set, but LMU used a five-point run to take a 7-2 lead. The Cavaliers tried to get some offense going as they pulled to within six, but the Lady Railsplitters were able to keep UVA Wise at bay to capture the first set, 25-16.
 
The second set became a tougher battle for LMU as the Cavaliers were able to keep up with the Railsplitter offense as an attack error by LMU saw an 8-8 tie. The Lady Railsplitters then turned on the burners as they rattled off a six-point urn to create some separation. The programs went onto trade points until Lincoln Memorial was able to secure the set, 25-19, after a Cavalier attack error.
 
The Lady Railsplitters came out of the gates in the third set firing on all cylinders. LMU took a 6-4 advantage and used a six-point run to push the lead to eight, 12-4. The Cavaliers only got as close as seven points as Katie Cardenas was able to connect with a ball from Walter to give the Lady Railsplitters the third set, and match, 25-16.

The Lady Railsplitters will go on the road Saturday, September 25 to Greeneville, Tenn. as they are set to take on the Pioneers of Tusculum at 2:00 p.m. EST.
