SALISBURY, N.C. – The Lincoln Memorial women's volleyball team led 2-1 after the third set, but couldn't put away the match and fell to Catawba (19-25, 25-17, 13-25, 25-22, 15-9) on Thursday night at Goodman Gym. The match between the Railsplitters (6-13, 4-7 South Atlantic Conference) and Indians (4-14, 2-9 SAC) was originally scheduled to be played on Sept. 30 but was postponed due to poor travel conditions caused by Hurricane Ian.
Set 1: Lincoln Memorial 25-19

Kristen Moehring and
Katie Bedel got the Railsplitters off to an early 2-0 lead. A later 4-0 Lincoln Memorial scoring run highlighted by a
Ketura Margaret kill opened the lead up to 10-6. The Railsplitters had three separate 3-point spurts in the second half of the set, the last of which clinched it for the visitors. Moehring and Margaret contributed three kills each in the opening frame for Lincoln Memorial.
Set 2: Catawba 25-17
An early 5-0 run by the hosts gave the Indians an 8-5 lead, and they would extend the advantage to seven at 17-10 and 18-11.
Sierrah Lemons and Moehring then put down kills as part of a 3-0 Railsplitter rally, but Catawba would lead by at least four points the rest of the way. Moehring (five kills) and
Maggie Sanderson (four) led the Lincoln Memorial offense in the second period.
Set 3: Lincoln Memorial 25-13
After Catawba jumped out to a 3-0 edge, Lincoln Memorial cruised to win the set while taking 25 of the final 35 points, including the clinching 7-point streak highlighted by two Sanderson kills. Margaret (six kills) and Sanderson (five) were the go-to hitters for the Railsplitters in the third frame.
Set 4: Catawba 25-22
A set of runs late, the two teams stayed within a few points of each other until a 5-0 Catawba streak gave the hosts a 19-13 advantage. Lincoln Memorial rallied back with an 8-2 run, highlighted by three kills from Sanderson, to knot the score at 21-all, but the Indians took 4 of 5 points to clinch the set and tie the match at 2-2. Sanderson again had another big frame, this time with six kills.
Set 5: Catawba 15-9
The visitors led 4-3 and 5-4 early, but the Indians rallied back with a 10-2 run to get separation and cruised from there to clinch the set and match. Sanderson had two kills in the final frame.
Stat of the Match
Sanderson posted 20 points on 19 kills (.455 hitting percentage) and two block assists while adding four digs.
Inside the Box Score
- Moehring got a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs, also collecting four blocks.
- Margaret stuffed the stat sheet with 13 kills, nine digs, two blocks, an ace and an assist.
