GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team got out to a hot start to defeat USC Aiken 90-69 on Saturday afternoon in its second game of the South Atlantic Conference / Peach Belt Conference Challenge in Pioneer Arena.
The Railsplitters (3-1) led 14-4 early thanks to 3-pointers from Quay Kennedy (two), Jordan Guest and Jordan Walters. They would score the last eight points of the half to go into the break up 45-25. Me'Kell Burries and Chase Rankin scored four points each during the run to go into halftime with the momentum.
Matthew Sells buried two triples to begin the second half, and Lincoln Memorial would lead by at least 20 points for the entirety of the period.
Kennedy led the Railsplitters in both points and rebounds with 21 and 7, while Rankin (14 points, six rebounds, three assists) and Guest (13 points, four rebounds) also scored in double figures for Lincoln Memorial.
Sells led the team in assists with seven while adding nine points and four rebounds, while Martez Brown (nine), Burries (eight) and Walters (eight) all contributed at least eight points.
The Railsplitters led the game from start to finish, converting at the free throw line (17-for-18) while minimizing turnovers (nine) for an efficient offensive output.
Lincoln Memorial will take on in-state rival King at Tex Turner Arena on Wednesday in its home opener.
