Women's Lacrosse Drops One To Lander

Ali Van Der Ziel nets three goals and Aver Van Der Ziel scores twice

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team traveled east to South Carolina to face Peach Belt member Lander. Both teams were undeafeated coming into the game, and after a strong first half, the Bearcats came out victorious 19-9 over the Lady Railsplitters.

Lander jumped out to a 4-0 lead early in the first quarter, before an unassisted Ali Van Der Ziel goal ended the run. The Bearcats then responded with seven straight goals to push their lead to 11-1 midway through the second quarter. The Lady Railsplitters scored two straight goals in less than two minutes, as Jaedyn Ryba scored an unassisted goal, then Ana Carney scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Ali Van Der Ziel. Lander responded with two goals right before the half to lead 13-3 into the break.

The Lady Railsplitters played well in the second half, trading goals with the Bearcats in the final 30 minutes of play. After a Lander goal, Ali Van Der Ziel netted her second goal of the game, then Kelly Csenar scored her second goal of the season following another Lander goal. After a Bearcat goal to start the fourth quarter, LMU responded with two straight goals, the first was by Ali Van Der Ziel, giving her the hat trick, and the second was by her sister Avery Van Der Ziel, off an assist from Ali. The Bearcats scored three straight, but the Blue and Gray ended the game with two straight goals, one from Deadre Jackson and the final from the stick of Avery off an assist from Ali Van Der Ziel.

"It was definitely not the outcome we wanted, but this team fought hard until the last second and came together to pull out a great second half," head coach Alyssa Shaver remarked. "We definitely built upon our culture today."

On the game, Ali Van Der Ziel scored three times and recorded three assists, while Ali Van Der Ziel netted two goals. Csenar, Carney, Ryba, and Jackson all scored once. Csenar and Ali Van Der Ziel both also caused two turnovers. Elle Miller recorded six saves in net for the Lady Railsplitters.
