No. 13 Softball Split Sunday Action to Move to 6-2

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. – The No. 13-ranked Lincoln Memorial University softball program (6-2, 0-0 SAC) split the final two matchups of the 2022 Charger Chillout Invitational, seeing both Sunday contests head to extra-innings as the Lady Railsplitters defeated Kentucky Wesleyan and fell to Mississippi College in thrilling fashion.

The Blue & Grey finished 3-1 overall at the invitational in Alabama, following Saturday triumphs over Tuskegee University and West Alabama.

Game 1 – No. 13 Lincoln Memorial def. Kentucky Wesleyan 5-4.

Following a slow start Sunday morning, the Lady Railsplitters shook off the early 4-0 deficit, as graduate transfer Delilah Malczewski held LMU steady, pitching the remaining six innings of action that resulted in zero runs scored off zero walks and two strikeouts.

Catcher McKenzie Henry carried the load offensively for LMU in game number one, off three RBI and a two-run homerun that pushed the contest to extra innings. Sierra Hucklebee knocked-in the game-winning RBI in the eighth to seal the third-consecutive victory for LMU. Malczewski moved to 3-0 on the young season.

Game 2 – No. 13 Lincoln Memorial fall to Mississippi College 14-10.

Game No. 2 of Sunday and the final match of the weekend saw the invitational's highest-scoring affair, as LMU dropped a wire-to-wire contest despite posting double-digit runs. The Lady Railsplitters held a commanding advantage on the day, leading 7-2 until their opposition altered the contest with a five-run seventh to make it a whole new ballgame.

As the contest headed to extra innings, LMU always had an answer for Mississippi College, seeing the Blue & Grey twice tie the lead in the bottom half of the eighth and ninth. Lincoln Memorial had no answer to Mississippi College's tenth inning tally of four, as LMU dropped the game 14-10.

LMU ace Emma Frost picked up just her first loss of the season, as the junior nearly came close to continuing her perfect record, until the wind came out of the sails in the game's seventh inning. First baseman Emma Webb took the headlines on the offensive end, as she finished 4-6 from the plate, smacking in a total of 5 RBI.

UP NEXT…
The No. 13 Lady Railsplitters rest until next weekend, where they will host the annual LMU Invitational beginning with Ohio Dominican Feb. 19 inside the Dorothy Neely Softball Complex.
