HARROGATE, Tenn. – The No. 13-ranked Lincoln Memorial University softball program (7-2, 0-0 SAC) welcomed three programs to the Dorothy Neely Softball Complex Saturday morning to compete in the annual LMU Invitational, including Ohio Dominican, Davenport and the Saints of Maryville.
LMU had plenty of time to rest and scout their opposition as the Lady Railsplitters did not play until the third matchup of the day well after 2 p.m.
The Blue & Grey defended their home turf in dominant fashion, outscoring their opponents 17-3 over a combined 12 innings of action Saturday afternoon.
Game 1 – No. 13 Lincoln Memorial def. Maryville 10-2.
The Lady Railsplitters produced their first mercy-rule of the year at home in Saturday's first game of the day, scoring a resounding 10 runs in just five innings of play.
Transfer graduate
Delilah Malczewski continued her excellent start to the 2022 campaign, improving to 4-0 after a display of five commanding innings to open the LMU Invitational. The Saints managed to score just a single run off Malczewski in her first and last innings in the circle, as the former Tusculum standout produced three-consecutive shutout innings with four strikeouts.
The heart of the order came up big yet again for the Lady Railsplitters, as shortstop
Sierra Hucklebee and catcher
McKenzie Henry drove in seven of the 10 LMU runs in the first matchup, both going deep on the Saints.
Grace Cochran, who started in the outfield for LMU to open up the weekend's invitational, also drove in two RBI off two hits against Maryville. Freshman
Shelby Blake led off the day for the Lady Railsplitters, also driving in a run.
Game 2 – No. 13 Lincoln Memorial def Ohio Dominican 7-1.
A quick and quiet seven innings can be expected whenever junior
Emma Frost takes the circle, and that was just the case today in Dorothy Neely as the dominant righty hurled yet another complete game to improve her record on the young season to 4-1. Frost only allowed a total of four hits and one run in seven innings pitched, reaching the double-digit mark in K's yet again with 10.
Freshman
Shelby Blake made good on an opportunity to start both matchups Saturday afternoon, knocking in two more RBI versus Ohio Dominican.
Hucklebee slapped another two hits against the Panthers, going yard yet again in the early season for her fourth in just 10 total appearances.
