Women's Basketball Falls In Defensive Battle To Limestone

Four Lady Railsplitters Score in Double-figures, Led by Flowers and Proffitt with 12 apiece

HARROGATE, TENN. – In a matchup that was supposed to happen almost a month ago before it got postponed twice, Limestone was finally able to make the trip up to Tex Turner Arena. The two teams usually have potent offenses, but that was not the case today, as the defenses were up to the challenge. It was a close contest throughout, but Limestone was able to make a few more shots in the fourth quarter to come away with a 56-51 victory.

The first quarter was all about the defenses, as they two teams combined to only score 17 points in the quarter. Neither team put points on the board until almost three minutes into the game when Limestone went on a 9-0 run over five minutes of play. LMU finally got on the board courtesy of a Mikayla Kuehne three-pointer. Limestone hit a jumper before Lauren Flowers responded with another three to make the score 11-6 heading into the second quarter.

The two offenses picked up a bit in the second period, and LMU got three-pointers from Irelynn Davisson and another from Flowers midway through the period to keep the game close. Limestone held a four-point lead with three minutes to play, but Flowers hit a jump shot and Kuehne followed with her second three of the game to give the Lady Railsplitters their first lead of the game. After two more Saints baskets, Flowers hit another jump shot, and Kassidy Kenny made a layup as time expired in the quarter to give LMU a 21-20 advantage heading into halftime.

Out of the break, LMU increased their lead to six after a Lindsay Proffitt three and two Davisson free throws. The Saints cut into the lead, but Proffitt answered right back with another corner three. Limestone came back to tie the game at 31, but this time Davisson answered with a three-pointer. Limestone made another basket and then it was Lexi Kiser's turn to respond from deep as she increased the LMU lead to four. The Saints would get that three back, as they hit one with 38 seconds remaining. That was the final scoring of the quarter, and the Lady Railsplitters held a narrow 37-36 lead with 10 mintues to play.

The Saints started the fourth quarter hot, going on a 14-2 run over the first four and a half minutes of action to take an 11-point lead. LMU would fight back, getting two three-pointers from Proffitt, and a jump shot from Kiser cut the deficit to four with 29 seconds remaining. That was a close as the game would get, as the Lady Railsplitters couldn't hit some tough shots on their final possessions, and the Saints came away victorious.

Lindsay Proffitt had 12 points on four three-pointers and also pulled down three rebounds. Flowers also had 12 points, and added seven assists. Kuehne added 10 points and nine rebounds, while Davisson scored 10 and grabbed three boards. Lexi Kiser came off the bench to score five points and dish out four assists.
