Women's Basketball Experiences Setback Versus Lenoir-Rhyne

Lauren Flowers Records an 18-point Double-Double, and Lindsay Proffitt Also Scores 18

HICKORY, N.C. – The Lincoln Memorial women's basketball started the last week of the regular season on the road in North Carolina as part of a three-game road trip. The Lady Railsplitters engaged in an offensive battle with Lenoir-Rhyne, but the Bears made a few more plays down the stretch to come away with a 79-72 win.

The two teams traded three-pointers to start the game, as the Lady Railsplitters got their scoring started with an Irelynn Davisson make from distance. The Bears went on an 8-0 run after that to go up 11-3. LMU responded with a 9-0 run started by a Mikayla Kuehne three, and followed by two jumpers from Lindsay Proffitt and another from Davisson. The two teams traded points the rest of the period before LR hit a three with five seconds remaining to take a 22-18 lead after ten minutes of play.

LMU battled back to tie the game on an Alex Canady three-pointer early in the second quarter. The teams again would trade baskets, until the Lady Railsplitters retook the lead on a Grace Day layup. Lauren Flowers followed that up with a three-pointer to give LMU a 34-32 lead. The Bears retied the game and hit a three at the buzzer to give them a 39-36 edge at halftime.

Lenoir-Rhyne pushed their lead up to five, but Proffitt hit another three and Kuehne knocked down a jump shot to tie the game once again. The Bears came back and once again took a five-point lead before the Lady Railsplitters fought back within two after a Grace Day layup with a minute left to cut the deficit to 54-52 heading into the final quarter.

Lindsay Profftt hit a three at the start of the quarter to give LMU the lead once more, then the Bears answered back to go ahead by one-point, but Lauren Flowers scored an old-fashioned three-point play to put the Splitters back in front 64-62. The Bears responded quickly with a three on their next possession to go back in front and pushed their lead up to three before Proffitt hit a jumper to cut it to one. The Bears would counter and increase their lead off of a couple of LMU turnovers and sealed the game at the charity stripe in the final minute of play.

Flowers recorded her first double-double of the season as she poured in 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Lindsay Proffitt also scored 18 points on 7-10 shooting. Mikayla Kuehne and Davisson both scored 11 points.
