JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. – It was tale of two halves for the Lincoln Memorial women's basketball team, as they were hot in the first half, shooting 50% from the field, but went cold in the second 20 minutes of play, shooting only 27%. Meanwhile, Carson-Newman heated up in the second half to pull away with a 74-59 win.
Irelynn Davisson got the game started quickly, knocking down a jumper just 13 seconds into the game to put the Lady Railsplitters on the board. The two teams traded swapped scores for a while before a
Mikayla Kuehne jump shot put LMU up 10-9 midway through the quarter. Coming out of the media timeout, Davisson hit two free throws and
Addi Kirkpatrick made a layup to increase the lead to five. Kirkpatrick hit two more layups in the final minute to put Lincoln Memorial up 20-13 heading into the second quarter.
After two Eagle baskets to begin the quarter, Davisson knocked down a three to push the lead back up to seven. Kirkpatrick made a putback layup to increase the lead up to double-digits.
Lauren Flowers scored seven straight Lady Railsplitters around a couple of Eagle baskets to give them an 11-point advantage. Carson-Newman scored a couple of buckets to cut into the lead, but Kirkpatrick laid in another shot to make it 40-30 after 20 minutes of play.
Carson-Newman started the second half on a roll, going on a 17-2 run over the first six and a half minutes to give CN the lead once again at 47-42. Flowers hit two free throws and made another three-pointer to tie the game at 47. The Eagles got another buck, but Davisson retied the game before Carson-Newman hit a three-pointer with four seconds left in the quarter to go into the fourth quarter up 52-49.
The Eagles again started a quarter on a big run, starting off on a 9-1 run to give them an 11-point advantage. Flowers hit her third three-pointer of the game to cut into that lead, but eight was as close as the Lady Railsplitters would get, as CN just kept pushing their lead up and picked up a 15-point win.
Lauren Flowers scored a game-high 21 points, while grabbing five rebounds and adding four steals.
Irelynn Davisson tallied 16 points, and
Addi Kirkpatrick came off the bench to score 12 points and pull down seven boards.
Mikayla Kuehne scored six points, dished out eight assists, and grabbed six rebounds.
