CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Going on the road for the first time this season, the Lincoln Memorial University traveled to the campus of Lee University for a midweek contest with the Flames, but fell, 7-4, on a windy, cloudy Tuesday.
It did not take long for the Flames offense to get going, getting runners in scoring position earlier in the second inning before a costly error by the Railsplitters allowed Lee to take a 2-0 advantage. The Flames then sent a three-run shot to left field to further their lead to 5-0.
Lee was able to keep the Splitter bats quite in the third as they extended their lead to six after an RBI single by Perez brought in Standifer.
The Railsplitters got the bats going in the fourth as
Cameron Bowen lead off with a triple to right center before being brought home by
Carson Boles on a sacrifice fly to right center. Both pitchers got out of the inning with the Flames holding onto a 6-1 lead.
Lincoln Memorial was able to get another run in in the fifth as DJ Alexander JR lead off the inning with a single to left before being able to advance to second moments later on a wild pitch. The Flames extended their lead back to five after an RBI single by Demkowicz.
The Railsplitters were able to get another run on the board in the seventh after
Sam Mast recorded an RBI single to left field that scored
Kasten Harvey. Lincoln Memorial's infield was able to turn the double play and
Ethan Bobo picking up his first strikeout of the night to keep the Flames calm in the seventh.
Lincoln Memorial further cut into the Lee lead after Harvey tallied an RBI single to bring in Bowen, bringing the Flames lead to 7-4. Lee went onto hold the lead, picking up the midweek win over the Railsplitters on Tuesday afternoon.
