HARROGATE, TENN. – It was an historic afternoon for the LMU women's lacrosse team, as they set a new single-game goal record, by scoring 25 times, breaking the old record of 23. 12 different Lady Railsplitters scored, as LMU beat Asbury 25-2 to stay undefeated at home.
"This was a really good team effort," said head coach
Alyssa Shaver. "This was a great momentum builder as we head into conference play."
Lincoln Memorial scored 11 times in the first quarter, including starting the game on a 10-0 run.
Chandler Bell started out the scoring by putting one past the goalkeeper 21 seconds into the contest.
Ali Van Der Ziel followed that up with three straight unassisted goals, then
Ana Carney scored two in a row, one off an assist from
Michaela Clark and the other unassisted. Ali then scored her fourth of the game, before her sister
Avery Van Der Ziel scored twice, both assisted by Ali. The Eagles got one back late in the quarter, but LMU got it right back as
Michaela Clark scored off an assist from
Melanie Cascio to put the Lady Railsplitters up 11-1 at the end of the first period.
Jolee Davis,
Jaedyn Ryba, and Cascio all scored unassisted goals to open up the second quarter.
Sierra Landsman followed that up with a goal off an
Avery Van Der Ziel assist.
Ali Van Der Ziel scored her fifth and sixth goals of the games to close out the half, one off an assist from Avery, and the other was unassisted.
LMU went into the second half up 17-1, and kept the pressure on the Eagles. Asbury scored the first goal of the second half, but that would be all they would get, as the Lady Railsplitter defense held the rest of the way.
Breanna Booth scored her first goal of the game, then Ali netted her seventh goal of the game, this one off an assist from Carney.
Jolee Davis and
Sierra Landsman closed out the third quarter with one goal apiece, both off assists from Ali.
Jaime Small opened up the fourth quarter with two straight goals, one unassisted, and the other assisted by
Sophia Gardea. The scoring closed out with single goals from Cascio and Michalea Clark.
Ali Van Der Ziel finished the game with 11 total points, seven goals and four assists, while Cascio, Landsman,
Avery Van Der Ziel, Small,
Jolee Davis, Carney, and
Michaela Clark all scored twice. Sophhia Gardea,
Jaedyn Ryba,
Breanna Booth, and
Chandler Bell all scored one goal apiece.
Avery Van Der Ziel dished out two assists, while Cascio, Carney, Clark, and Gardea all had one.
