Men's Volleyball Sweeps Erskine in Friday Night Affair

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Opening the 2022 campaign with their best start in program history, the Lincoln Memorial University men's volleyball team defeated the Erskine Flying Fleet on Friday night in straight sets (25-11, 25-19, 25-15).
 
The Railsplitters' dominated from the first serve as they kept the Flying Fleet to just a .043 hitting percentage while the Lincoln Memorial offense hit .363 on the night with 42 total kills. LMU out dug Erskine, 32-20, while the Railsplitters were able to notch seven team blocks.
 
Lincoln Memorial jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the first set, and never looked back. The Flying Fleet got to within six, but the Splitters used five-point run to make it 18-7, before Cole Campisano closed out the first set to give LMU a 1-0 lead in the match, 25-11.
 
The Flying Fleet found some ground early in the second set, challenging the Railsplitters at each chance, going up 10-9. Lincoln Memorial did not take long to get going after being down one as they used a six-point run to take the lead, 15-10. Erskine tried to mount a comeback, but the Railsplitters snuffed out any change, taking the second set, 25-19.
 
The third set was tightly contested as the Railsplitters held just a 10-7 lead early on. After using a five-point run in the middle of the third set, LMU was able to improve the separation between the programs. Making his first appearance on the year, Will Eiken checked in and powered to Railsplitters to a set three win, 25-14.
 
Sophomore Dawson Walker had a night on the court as the Englewood, Ohio native recorded a team-high 11 kills while boasting a new career-high .688 hitting percentage. Kohl Kutsch continued his dominance in the LMU offense as he boasted 32 assists in the win.

The Railsplitters will welcome Emmanuel (Ga.) to Mary Mars Gym for a Saturday afternoon matchup on February 5th. First serve is set for 4 p.m. EST.
