Men's Volleyball Defeats Emmanuel in Straight Sets

The Splitters are off to the best start in program history and are currently receiving votes to the AVCA NCAA DI-II Top 15

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University men's volleyball program continued their best start in program history as they captured their sixth-straight to start the year after sweeping Emmanuel on Saturday afternoon.

The Railsplitters (6-0) controlled the match from the opening whistle, jumping out to an early 7-3 lead in the first set. The Lions (2-2) crawled back to within four points, but the stout Blue and Gray defense, backed by Dawson Walker and Matthew Gentry, had the performance of the season as they limited Emmanuel to a -.029 hitting percentage for the match. The Lions got two points late but sent the next serve long to give LMU the set one win, 25-16.

Emmanuel gave the Splitters a run for their money early in the second set as they held an 8-6 lead early on. Johansen Negron and Lincoln Memorial had other plans as they used a four-point run to take a 12-9 lead just moments later. The Blue and Gray offense came to life as Walker lead the Splitters to a 10-1 run to give LMU a 22-11 lead. Moments later, after trading points, the Railsplitters captured the second set, 25-14.

Lincoln Memorial soared to a 10-2 lead to kick off the third set before continuing to extend their lead over Emmanuel. The Lions tried to mount a comeback, but a couple huge blocks and continuous fire power on the offensive side, the Railsplitters cruised to a set three win, 25-14.

Cole Campisano lead the offensive effort with a team-high eight kills while hitting .500 for the match with Kohl Kutsch being the main setter of the match. Kutsch finished the afternoon with just 19 assists, but also tallied seven digs and four blocks.
