GREENEVILLE, TENN. – Back in the states, and back in the win column. The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball was back in action for the first time since February 20th, but showed no signs of rust as they swept Tusculum.
The Railsplitter defense was a force all evening, holding the Pioneers to a .017 hitting percentage over all three sets. The front line blocked eight Tusculum attack attempts, and Railsplitters dug out 17 balls.
The first set was back and forth to start, as LMU held a slim 9-8 lead early on, but the Railsplitters got hot and went on an 11-2 run to take control of the set, and a Pioneer attack error gave the Blue and Gray a 25-15 first set victory.
Cole Campisano took over in the second set, tallying four kills and adding a block to help the Railsplitters get out to a 21-14 lead. Tusculum tried making a rally late in the set, but
Justin Sharfenaker got a great pass from
Kohl Kutsch and smashed it down to take set two 25-18.
The two teams traded points pretty much the entire third set, with neither team getting more than a three-point advantage. LMU got kills from Campisano,
Matt Friddle, and
Dawson Walker to close out the set at 25-22 to secure the sweep.
Campisano led the offensive attack, slamming down 10 kills on only 12 swings, good for a .750 hitting percentage.
Dawson Walker had seven kills and added four blocks. Kutsch dished out 14 assists over two sets, and
Luigi Pacini had 12 assists in the final set.
John Luers had four digs, while
Justin Sharfenaker had three digs, and added five kills.
