Men's Volleyball Falls in Five Sets to Quincy

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lincoln Memorial University men's volleyball fell on the road in a neutral contest to Quincy in five sets (25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 24-26, 18-20) on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Hawks were able to get their offense going early, taking a 4-1 lead but the Railsplitters were able to respond moments later with a 6-1 run to take an 8-6 lead. Quincy tried to mount an offensive surge, but the Blue and Gray defense stood tall as Lincoln Memorial's offense was able to land the swings to push them to a set one win, 25-19.
 
Quincy again raced out to an early lead, but Lincoln Memorial's Cole Campisano was able to stuff a Hawk attack to swing the momentum in favor of LMU. The Hawks were able to tame the arms of LMU for a brief moment, but the Railsplitters used a three-point run to push their lead to 17-13. Lincoln Memorial was able to hold onto the lead the remainder of the set, winning set two 25-21.
 
The Railsplitters got out to a quick start in the third, but the Hawks were able to turn the tide and make it 8-4 in favor of Quincy. Lincoln Memorial was able to battle back, evening things up at 12 apiece before the Hawks used a late offensive surge to take the third set, 25-21.
 
The Railsplitters made quick work to start the fourth set as the Splitters raced out to an early 7-2 lead. Down 10-4, Quincy used a quick three-run burst to cut into the Blue and Gray lead. Over the course of the middle of the set, both programs continued to trade blows as the Splitters looked to capture the fourth as they held a 23-20 lead. The Hawks turned on the octane as they locked down defensively to limit just one more LMU point as the Quincy offense surged to take the fourth set, 26-24.
 
The Hawks jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead to begin the fifth set, but Lincoln Memorial quickly evened things up at 4-4. Quincy then took control and was able to take a two-point lead over the Splitters, then extended their lead to 13-9. The Railsplitters then broke out for a four-point run to even things up, then moments later taking a 15-14 lead. The Hawks flipped the switch, grabbing match point at 16-15, but the programs flipped match points again before Quincy used a three-point run to seal the win, 20-18.
