HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball program won game one of the double header in a similar fashion to the prior night, but Carson-Newman was able to take control late in game two to split the Saturday afternoon matchups at Lamar Hennon Field.
Game One – Lincoln Memorial 8, Carson-Newman 7
The Railsplitters got to work early offensively as
Cameron Bowen sent one beyond the left field wall to give LMU a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles were able to respond in the top of the second as C-N was able to load the bases, forcing the Splitter defense to a fielder's choice decision allowing Daughtry to score from third, evening the score up at 1-all.
It did not take long for Lincoln Memorial to respond as
Sam Mast and
Kasten Harvey were able to drill back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the second to allow LMU to retake the lead, 3-1.
Carson-Newman evened things up in the fourth after tallying one in the third before an RBI single by Jackson brought it to 3-all. The Railsplitters' bats then started connecting as
Andrew Keene lead off the fourth with a ground rule double before
Tucker Hagan tallied an RBI single to left. Hagan was then advanced to third, but was able to take home after an error by the centerfielder of C-N. A pitching change forced the Splitters into a double play, but Goda was able to tag home on the event to bring the LMU lead to 6-3.
The Eagles were able to draw in on the lead in the sixth on an RBI single to make it 6-4 LMU.
Things got quiet till the ninth as Carson-Newman went onto take the lead, 7-6, in the top of the frame before the Railsplitters were able to load the bases, getting the eight-pitch walk to walk-off the Eagles in game one, 8-7.
Game Two – Carson-Newman 10, Lincoln Memorial 6
The Railsplitters broke out to a 3-0 lead in the third, but the Eagles captured the lead in the fourth with a four-run inning, 4-3.
Lincoln Memorial retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth as they got their offense going with a single to left by Bowen and then was able to advance to second on the throw. A
Carson Boles double to left center allowed Bowen to score, making it 4-all.
Ryan Kurth was then able to knock down an RBI single before advancing to second on the throw out attempt at home, giving LMU the 5-4 lead.
The Railsplitters tallied another run in the fifth to extend their lead on an RBI ground rule double from
Collin Goda, bringing in Harvey from second.
A calm sixth inning lead into a Carson-Newman lead seventh as the Eagles were able to load the bases early and knock down hits late to take the win in game two, 10-6.
